The
National Staff Development Council (NSDC) is recognized as the leading national
association of staff development professionals in the United States. The
association's revised Standards for Staff Development reflect what the NSDC
and the staff development community have learned about professional learning. The
standards are guided by three questions: What are all students expected to know
and be able to do? What must teachers know and do in order to ensure student
success? Where must staff development focus to meet both goals?
The NSDC standards provide direction for designing professional development
experiences that ensure that participants acquire the knowledge and skills they
need to maximize student learning. Staff development must be results-driven,
standards-based, and job-embedded. The twelve (12) revised standards are
divided into three categories: Context, Process, and Content. The standards can be downloaded from the
