Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) believes that a systematic structure of support for beginning teachers is crucial to their success. Accordingly, a three year comprehensive induction program, Mentoring and Induction for New Teachers (MINT) has been developed to support the varied levels of experience and education our new teachers possess. MINT has been designed to support the practice of new teachers, to create an awareness of professional responsibilities and ultimately, positively affect student learning. In addition to providing support to beginning teachers, the induction program provides opportunities for mentors and teachers to reflect upon practice in order to improve the quality of education, thus elevating the teaching profession and fostering a collaborative learning community for all educators. The goal of the District is to promote continual growth and success for all new teachers.

New teachers in full time permanent positions, who are non-education majors are eligible to participate in the District's state-approved Alternative Professional Preparation Program (AP3). The AP3 program is a year long program tailored to assist those teachers to meet the State's coursework requirements for issuance of a professional certificate. The philosophy of AP3 is a commitment to student learning and achievement, as well as providing new teachers with high quality professional development opportunities.
