The Assistant Principal Preparation Program provides a comprehensive competency-based approach to assess and enhance leadership capacity and the potential of eligible candidates. Participants will acquire the necessary technical and adaptive skills in instructional leadership, operational leadership, school leadership, and urban leadership for successful leadership within Miami-Dade Public Schools. The competency-based focus is the success of each participant within a timeframe that is based on the participant's actual performance on each of the 10 Leadership Standards with supporting artifacts.
There is an application, screening and interview process facilitated by Human Resources. Selected candidates will participate in an orientation that will clearly outline the components of the program, its guidelines, and completion requirements. Core learning activities will be provided via face-to-face and online. Participants complete follow-up activities for each professional development activity to ensure knowledge gained and application at the worksite.
Components of the program include a self assessment, Individual Leadership Development Plan, Action Research Project, field experience opportunities, and job shadowing. All participants will be assigned a Leadership Experience Field Guide to provide support and guidance in implementing their leadership development plan and in applying the core learning through field experiences throughout the program year. In addition, all participants will prepare and submit a portfolio documenting the range of professional learning experiences and activities completed throughout the program and mastery of the 10 Florida Principal Leadership Standards.
Placement of the Eligible Candidate Roster (ECR) is dependent upon submission of the competency checklists signed by the immediate supervisor and successful completion of all program requirements.
