TITLE II TEACHER QUALITY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM |

The Title II Teacher Quality Professional Development Program and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will be co-sponsoring an inservice course in tropical botany for a limited number of teachers who teach science in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools K-12 program.
Priority for placement will be given to teachers who are teaching science out-of-field or who have an approved Plan of Study for Add-on Certification in General Science, 5-9 or Biology, 6-12.
This enjoyable and challenging course will use a combination of classroom, indoor and outdoor activities to present the basic principles of botany. Daily walks and field trips to local areas of botanical interest will enable participants to get plenty of hands-on experience with plant identification, adaptations to their environment and local ecology
Participants will also learn how to apply the extensive resources of Fairchild Tropical Garden in their own classrooms. Dress casually but appropriately for indoor and outdoor summer conditions.

Participants who successfully complete the course, including earning a passing grade on the final exam will receive 60 Master Plan Points and a stipend. Teachers selected to participate must attend all sessions and complete required assignments. No substitutions, make-up assignments, or independent activities will be permitted. No partial credit or stipends will be given.
